Ex - alt
to raise high; elevate
to intensify, heighten
to glorify, praise, or honor
to raise in estimation or rank; to magnify
All of these are great definitions of the word exalt, especially when you use them in reference to God. Unfortunately that’s not how I most often use it. I find myself constantly having to confess the sin of thinking, worrying, or obsessing about a situation so much that I think of it more than I think of God.
I’m so worried about ________, or
I want to know ___________ right now, or
want an answer to _________ question so much that I fixate on it.
Like a dog to a bone my gaze can’t be diverted from the situation at hand. So much so, that I lose sight of everything and everyone else. My sights can even be set on good things, but I’m still focused on that thing, or that person instead of God. How easy and how subtle it is for me to quickly fall into that trap! Lord help me to EXALT the one thing instead of all the other things greedily vying for my attention.
